Outstanding Faculty Award
Oklahoma City University’s Outstanding Faculty Award honors a faculty member whose teaching, scholarship, and service are deemed to be exemplary. It celebrates outstanding performance in all areas of academic pursuit and acknowledges special achievement.
The award is presented once every academic year.
1. Eligibility
a) Only faculty members who have taught full-time at OCU for at least five years and are currently
employed by the university are eligible for the award.
b) Recipients are not eligible again for five years.
c) Faculty members in their last year of employment at the university are not eligible.
2. Criteria for the Outstanding Faculty Award are:
a) mastery of the discipline,
b) excellence in teaching,
c) distinguished scholarship and professional performance (research papers, publications, speeches, artwork,
stage performances, etc.), and
d) outstanding service.
3. Procedure for the selection of the faculty member for the Outstanding Faculty Award
a) OCU faculty, deans, staff members, current students, and graduates may nominate candidates for the award. Candidates must be nominated by at least two OCU community members, one of whom must be a peer. Letters of nomination shall not exceed two pages in length.
b) Nominations must be sent to the Outstanding Faculty Selection Committee (OFSC) - care of the Committee Chair.
c) The OFSC reviews the submitted recommendations and the supporting documents and selects a minimum of three nominees for personal interviews.
d) The committee shall inform the provost of its selection. The provost shall inform the recipient.
4. Committee Composition and Timeline
a) The OFSC consists of five previous award winners. Members of the committee are appointed each year by the provost with concern for distribution across the university.
b) The provost shall select the OFSC members by September 1.
c) The chair of the committee shall call for nominations from the OCU community no later than
October 1. Nominations must be sent to the OFSC by December 1. If a committee member is nominated for the award, the provost shall select a substitute as quickly as possible after this date.
d) The selection of the finalists shall be completed by February 15.
e) The selection process shall be completed by February 25.
f) The university president shall formally present the awardat the spring graduation ceremony.
